Giving at Gymea Anglican Church

Sharing in God’s work in Gymea and beyond

Everything we do at Gymea Anglican Church is made possible by the generosity of God and the generous partnership of his people.

Together, we are seeking to grow God’s church in Gymea and beyond by loving Jesus, loving each other and loving Gymea. Giving is one way we share in that mission. It enables us to hold out the word of life in our local community, help people come to know Jesus, care for one another and support gospel work beyond Gymea.

Christian giving is not a fee for attending church, nor a way of earning God’s favour. It is a willing and joyful response to the grace God has already shown us in Jesus:

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor.” 2 Corinthians 8:9

What your giving makes possible

Most of our ministry is funded directly by the regular giving of people who belong to Gymea Anglican Church.

Your giving enables us to:

teach the Bible and proclaim the good news of Jesus each week;
employ and support our ministry and administrative staff;
provide ministry for children, young people, adults and seniors;
support Life Groups, pastoral care and practical care within our church family;
welcome and serve people through ministries such as Playtime, ESL, Food Pantry, youth groups and community events;
maintain buildings that are used throughout the week by our church and wider community;
train and equip people for Christian ministry; and
support missionaries, Scripture teaching and other gospel work beyond Gymea.

In this sense, Gymea Anglican Church is a local mission base: a community of people and a place from which the good news of Jesus is proclaimed, Christians are equipped to serve and our neighbourhood is loved.

How our finances are managed

Parish Council oversees the church’s finances and approves an annual ministry budget. Our accounts are independently audited each year, and regular financial updates are provided to the congregation.

A significant part of our budget supports the people who lead, teach, care for and administer our ministries. It also meets the everyday costs of sustaining our church’s ministry and maintaining the property entrusted to us.

We want you to understand both the opportunities and the financial needs of our church. Current giving and budget information is published regularly in our weekly bulletin, and members may ask questions about the church’s finances at any time.

Giving at church

You may also give through the collection at one of our Sunday services. Giving envelopes are available in the church foyer.

Deciding what to give

The New Testament does not prescribe a particular percentage for Christians. Instead, it encourages giving that is willing, thoughtful, regular and generous:

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7

How much you give is a matter for prayerful consideration before God. Your circumstances may change, and it is good to review your giving from time to time. There is no expectation that everyone will give the same amount.

You may decide to support Gymea Anglican Church regularly, give to a particular ministry or project, or give in other ways to people and organisations doing good work. We encourage generosity, but the decision remains yours.
