The Rise Of The King

In the coming weeks, we begin a new series in 1 Samuel, a book that takes us deep into the story of Israel as they move from the time of the judges to the monarchy. It answers big questions for God’s people:

• Why did they want a king?

• Why was Saul rejected?

• Why did God establish David’s line instead?

But more than that, 1 Samuel gives us a rich and realistic picture of leadership. It shows us both the promise and the failure of human rulers and helps us understand why our hope can never rest in them. Like Israel, we long for leadership that is wise, just, and good. Whether it’s political leaders, organisational heads, or anyone in authority, we look for someone to make things right.
