About the event

A free art group for those interested in painting. We meet every Thursday night during the school term. All skill levels are welcome.

The primary focus will be on acrylic painting, however water-soluble oils, watercolours and drawing mediums can be used. Please do not bring anything that produces fumes.

You will need to bring your own supplies and materials. If you are not sure what you might need, we would suggest starting with:

Acrylic paints (student grade, if beginner):

  • red (warm/cold)
  • blue (warm/cold)
  • yellow (warm/cold)
  • white
  • black

A set of flat and round acrylic brushes from fine to large.

A painting palette

Water jar

A canvas or paper that can be used with acrylic paints

An apron

A pencil & erasor

A pad of drawing paper

The Riot Art online store often has sales and afforable prices if you need to find anything: https://riot.com.au/

otherwise you can go to your local art store to pick up these supplies.

Run by our resident Graphic Designer and painting enthusiast Jessamy Hunter. She has over 10 years’ experience working in design and studied Visual Communication at UTS. Although she works primarily in the digital space, she has a love for painting and drawing and believes art is a fantastic way to express and process emotion, explore one's own creativity and help build community.

Numbers will be limited; we recommend arriving close to the start time to ensure a spot.

Acknowledgement Of Country

Gymea Anglican Church acknowledges the triune God, the Creator of heaven and earth and His ownership of all things (Psalm 24:1). We recognise that He gave stewardship of these lands upon which we meet to the First Nations Peoples of this country (Acts 11:26). In His sovereignty, He has allowed other people groups to migrate to these shores. We acknowledge the cultures of our First Nations Peoples and are thankful for the community that we share together now. We pay our respects to Dharawal speaking people who are the traditional custodians of the area now called Gymea, and their elders leaders, both past and present, and those who are rising up to become leaders. We pay our respect to all First Nations People and pray for God’s blessing on all Australians as we seek reconciliation and justice.
